IOWA Town — The University of Iowa College of Instruction has obtained a $15 million donation — the largest present at any time to the faculty — to guidance coaching and investigation in college psychological wellbeing.
The Iowa Center for School Mental Wellness, launched final summer months with $20 million in federal pandemic reduction money, will be renamed the Scanlan Heart for School Psychological Health after the gift from the Chicago-based Scanlan Family Foundation.
The gift and renaming, which will be considered July 27 by the Iowa Board of Regents, will grow medical assistance for faculty psychological wellbeing in collaboration with the UI’s Belin-Blank Center.

Mary Bucksbaum Scanlan, a Des Moines indigenous, and her partner, Patrick Scanlan, have been longtime supporters of the Belin-Blank Center, pledging $10 million in 2016 to develop the Martin and Melva Bucksbaum Early Entrance Academy for Science, Know-how, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
